Martha, Martha, Martha

Eddie RossHave you been watching Top Design this season? Well they are down to 4 contestants and after watching three episodes tonight, I am particularly annoyed with one of the designers.

This designer is Eddie Ross. Eddie works for Martha Stewart Omnipedia and is the Senior Style Editor for Martha Stewart’s Living Magazine. He talks all the time about how he rides in Martha’s plane, how he knows everything about design and taste, and constanty rips into the other contestants right up to their faces and mostly behind their backs.

His attitude sucks and I think he is being a bitchy, little gay brat. In the latest challenge they had to design a room around some high-end chandeliers. Eddies room looked horrible. Now, he had immunity in this round, but he insisted that he had the best, best room there. They had a budget of $22,000 and had to show in the LA Mart, a designer’s mall of sorts for professionals only. Well it turns out there is a Martha Stewart store in there and he goes absolutely mad in there.  He had one of the best chandeliers there and he turned into into a coffin (that’s what the judges said). I wish he didn’t have immunity becuase the judges really hated his design.

He constantly has to remind people that he works for Martha Stewart and that he is the definition of style.

I personally think that if Martha saw his behavior, that she would agree it was unbecoming a Martha Stewart employee.

Top Crap

September 14th, 2008 3:02 pm | No Comments

This season of Top Design is Top Crap. Todd Oldham has been demoted to the role of mentor and they have brought in the “daughter” of a famed interior designer. Yes, because being the lineage of a great designer TOTALLY qualifies you to be a host and judge.

India Hicks has no hosting skills whatsoever. She’s absolutely awful. Rejoining her from Season 1 are judges Jonathan Adler, Kelly Wearstler and Margaret Russell.

So I said earlier that Todd is now the mentor on the show, but he’s not on the show all that much. At least Tim Gunn gets alot of camera time and there is structure to his appearances. For Todd it’s very random.

They have also created the Pop Design, akin to the Quickfire Elimination on Top Chef.

The first episode had the teams breaking up into four teams and have to design an entire two-story loft with only $2000 and two days. Serge was sent home.

The second episode had them breaking up into teams of two and having to design the inside of a bomb shelter. Creating a unified space yet show the style aesthetics of each designer. Both Jennifer and Robert were sent home.

They finally got rid of Jonathan Adler’s “See You Later, Decorator…” and replaced it with a horrbly delivered “We can’t live with your design, you’re going home…”

So closing thoughts…I can’t handle Prestons v-neck shirts. I’m not sure if Wisit is a guy or a girl, I like Nathan. Natalie reminds me of Caroline Rhea.

Is Carissa, Jaimie??

February 21st, 2007 8:19 pm | No Comments

I’ve been watching Top Design for the last few weeks. There is a contestant on the show, Carissa, who is a deisgn student on the show. My co-worker Jaimie, the cuter of the two, looks like Carissa! Jaimie has been on maternity leave and I miss her so much. The dynamic of our part of the office has changed since she left. For the last couple of weeks when I see Carissa on the screen, I’m reminded of Jaimie.

On a side note, Jaimie, who is not a designer, has a WAY better sense of design than Carissa.
