So…About that Little Girl

August 12th, 2008 8:24 pm | 1 Comment

So today news comes out that China deemed the REAL singer of “Ode to the Motherland” wasn’t cute enough to be on National/Global Television, so they brought in Lin Miaoke in to lip-synch the song while the real singer, Yang Peiyi was backstage.

Is this for real??? Come on!

What message are we sending out there by doing this?? This kind of deception is a kin all the drug testing that is taking place. We want to make sure that the proper image is put forth of all of our hard working athletes. Testing ensures that everyone is on an even playing field. By the Government of China deciding that Yang Peiyi was not cute enough to be put on stage and giving her a fake “face” is just as bad as an athlete taking performance enhancing drugs.

I know I might be going on a limb on this one, but that’s how I feel.

O Canada…Olympic Update

August 11th, 2008 12:09 am | No Comments

Beijing 2008 OlympicsI should get to bed. But there has been one thing that has stuck with me all day today. I think I watched three medal ceremonies since yesterday and for some reason I have Canada’s National Anthem in my head.

Why?

I’m watching the medal ceremonies for the Men’s Relay in Swimming and whatever is playing while the medals are being handed out is reminding me of “O Canada.”

So yet again, I’m hearing the US National Anthem and I have goosebumps all over. They do the great camera fade-ins of our four athletes on stage and with the music playing in the background it really, really wants to make you tear up.

So U.S. Medal update:

3 Gold

4 Silver

4 Bronze

Every Four Years…

Beijing 2008 Olympics

Every four years something magical happens. I always tell myself that I’m not interested, but I always find myself glued to my TV flipping between my local NBC station, CNBC and other NBC affiliates as the Olympics get underway.

I watched Mens’ Swimming, Mens’ Gymnastics, Badminton and Womens’ Volleyball. I watched as Michael Phelps swam the Individual 400m race to win the Gold and set a new World Record. His mom was in the stands cheering him on, yelling “GO GO GO” and shedding tears when her son finished the race. He raised his hand and fist into the air in joy.

Jonathan Horton on the Parallel BarsI also watched Jonathan Horton as he swung around on the high bar with such force, such energy with clean lines. Raj Bhavsar was not a name I had heard before. But NBC did a short story on him and I was so inspired. His spirituality and centeredness was inspiring.

Michael Phelps at the Award Ceremony for the 400m Ind RaceI’m sitting here watching the award ceremony for the 400m Individual Race where Phelps won the Gold. They announced his name and I got goosebumps all over. Then the National Anthem played (the sound engineer fucked it up btw) but I started to tear up. Yes…I cried.
