I Touched One: iPhone

July 6th, 2007 7:34 pm | No Comments

So I was able to hold off a whole week before touching an actual iPhone. I came really close on the 29th to getting in a line to buy an iPhone. I knew that if I went to an Apple Store and touched one, I would want to own one of these beautifully crafted marvels of technology! :)

Well today I had to go to the Apple Store to pick up an iMac that was in for repair. While there I ran into Brian Parker who is the Business Sales guy for the Irvine Apple Store. He asked if I had one and I said not yet. I then looked over at the table where the iPhones where and said, “…yeah, that table has been swamped all day eh?”

Brian then reached into his back pocket and handed me his iPhone and said “Go at it…”.

I said “For real??”

From the first touch, it was like magic. I did everything on this iPhone. The one thing I didn’t get off the bat was the pinching action to zoom into a page or photo. After a few tries though, I got it. Typing was natural for me, more natural than I thought. I guess all that oogling online and on TV paid off, seeing it being used on TV paved the way for me to get it right! :)

This phone is magic I tell you.

I want one….

iDay PDT: It’s Here – The iPhone

June 29th, 2007 5:56 pm | No Comments

It’s 6:00pm on the West Coast.

The iPhone is here! I by 2 Apple locations and 1 AT&T store and there were lines alright.

I debated about 20x today if I should just get in line and go for it…

I need to be fiscally responsible right now…

Happy iDay to all you new iPhone owners!

It’s iPhone Day! 8:43am PDT

June 29th, 2007 8:45 am | No Comments

It is almost 9:00am, I’ve had KTLA on my TV and watched Kurt the Cyberguy do his news segment from The Grove up in LA. He has an iPhone and has been talking to people in line. It’s payday today and I”m feeling a bit like I need to go and stand in line and buy one. The hype and talk has been tremendous.

However, I have to be good and concentrate on what I currently have. It is so tempting to go and stand in line.

I want an iPhone.

What Seafood Is Safe To Eat?

June 24th, 2007 3:38 pm | No Comments

Seafood WatchI’ve been eating alot of seafood lately. I started eating more seafood since I went to culinary school back in 2000. Anne Smith who is the owner of The New School of Cooking has always been socially conscious about concerns of our environment. Included in our materials was a Seafood Watch Pocket Guide. This guide is developed by seafoodwatch.org affiliated with the Monterrey Bay Aquarium.

In the card, it lists fish to avoid eating, fish that is recommended and good alternatives. High on the Avoid List is Chilean Sea Bass. Admittedly, this is one of my favorite fish in the world. Also on the list is Atlantic Cod and Orange Roughy.

Good Alternatives are: Basa, Pacific Cod, Flounders and Soles.

Best Choices are: Abalone, Pacific Halibut, Salmon (Wild, not farmed) and Tilapia.

You can carry a small pocket guide right HERE.

Print it out and carry it in your wallet.

Every time you go out and eat at a restaurant or buying fish at the market, keep this list handy. Remember, the choice you make, affects conservation efforts. If you want to know MORE about Seafood Watch visit www.seafoodwatch.org.

Apple and Cisco Figured It Out

February 21st, 2007 11:49 pm | No Comments

So it looks like the suit between Cisco and Apple over the usage of “iPhone” have been settled outside of the courtroom. Both companies have agreed to use the “iPhone” name for their products throughout the world. Meanwhile, both Apple and Cisco have agreed to collaborate on interoperability in the area of security and consumer and enterprise communications.

Glad they were able to work it out.
