Stargate Universe

Ok..I’m a bit behind as I haven’t been excited about the third franchise of the Stargate world. As time draws closer to the premiere on October 2nd on SyFy, I’m finding out more and more. I’m learning about how much different this will be from SG-1 and Atlantis.

I have a feeling that this is going to be something quite different and quite spectacular…

Here is a snippet of the trailer shown at Comic-Con in San Diego:

I hope that my fear that it will be Star Trek: Voyager will be proven wrong!

Still GLEEful in an SG-1 Kinda Way

May 23rd, 2009 10:23 am | 2 Comments

So it has been 4 days since GLEE premiered on Fox and I have to admit to you that I’m still hooked. Days later I’m listening to the iTunes-available songs of Rehab and Don’t Stop Believin’. I’ve learned all of Finn’s harmony parts to Don’t Stop Believin’ . It’s crazy right? Why am I still soooo obsessed?

While watching the GLEE pilot episdoe, which is available for FREE on iTunes in HD by the way, I kept trying to figure out where I have seen male lead, Corey Montieth (Finn) before. A quick IMDB search answered my question.

Corey Montieth who was recruited for GLEE can actually sing. The entire cast was auditioned for their parts and they do all their own singing on the show. Who knew that this young “Lt. Colonel Mitchell” from Stargate SG-1 can actually carry a tune? That’s where I’ve seen him. He played a young Mitchell in the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1 where the team was re-imagined as younger versions of the actual SG-1 team.

For 27 years old, he can still pass for a high school senior. Lee Michele (Rachel) is 23 and plays a high school sophomore. We can only wish we could look that young. There isn’t much on Corey on the net. He used to live up in Canada but currently resides in Culver City, CA.

Offline: Stargate Atlantis

picture-40Tonight was the Series Finale for Stargate Atlantis. The episode was only 1 hour long and it didn’t go out with much of a bang, despite the explosion of the nuclear device aboard a Hive ship orbiting Earth.

Yes, the overall episode could have been better if they did a two hour episode, but I don’t write for the show. It was kewl that Atlantis floating in the middle of San Francisco bay at the end, but really. Coudn’t we afford to pay for a special effect to see an outside shot of the city against the SF skyline? Wouldn’t that have been way more kewl!

So now we have a couple of movies to look forward to. These won’t be a direct-to-dvd like the SG1 movies, they will be shown on the Sci-Fi Channel.

We also have the third series, Stargate Universe, to look forward to. For some reason I’m not all excited about it, but as the release date gets closer this summer, maybe I’ll see what all the fuss is about.

Stargate Atlantis: Rest in Peace?

August 25th, 2008 9:27 pm | No Comments

Well the SciFi channel has issued a release today saying it will not be renewing Stargate Atlantis for a sixth season. Their current fifth season will end in January 2009. However, the producers of the Stargate franchise have said that Stargate is stronger than ever.

I wasn’t a fan of the Stargate SG-1 spinoff, but I was a faithful fan and watched every week as the Wraith and the Pegasus Replicators came after the crew of Atlantis every week. I have to say that it seemed that the episodes were getting more predictable each week. While I’m sad that Atlantis is leaving, I’m not surprised.

The producers have promised at 2-hour movie much akin to the SG-1 movies, Ark of Truth and Continuum. The 2 hour movie will air in the summer of 2009.

But is this really the end??? Oh no….standby for Stargate Universe. A 3rd franchise from the minds of Stargate SG-1. Yes..a third franchise. The goal is to attract a much younger and broader audience. They will focus on characters rather than the mythology of the Stargate universe.

Perhaps they should take a cue from SG-1’s 200th episode and mix The OC with the SG:

SciFi and Reality

Whew…what a night. So it was veg out in front of the TV night. It was a busy day at work today. The day got away and next thing I know it was 4:30 and I hadn’t had any lunch.

I got home, cooked some dinner and a little extra for lunch tomorrow.

So the first item on my night of TV was the release of Stargate: Continuum. This is the second direct-to-dvd movie. I’ll go into a full review of the movie in the next few days. In the meantime, here are a few clips.

After Continuum, I watched the season premiere of Eureka tonight. I’m really glad that it got renewed for another season. I look forward to Tuesdays again.

Just before bed, I watch Jeff Lewis and Flipping Out on Bravo. Chris, the new house assistant, quit today, but it was amicable. So Jeff has to find a new house assistant. Ryan’s kid, Chloe, is soooo adorable. She is 2 now. Wow.

Well sorry this is so short…I’m really tired and have a long day tomorrow.

Night!
