Hope Across the Land

January 20th, 2009 11:29 pm | No Comments

People from all over my office were gathered around computer screens and radios, while I had my iPhone in my hand streaming President Obama’s Inaugural Speech.

Watching the images of the day, I wish I was back home in Washington DC, celebrating one of the happiest days of my life. President Obama became the 44th President of the United States today!

People all across our great country celebrated with friends, coworkers and family as we usher in this new time of hope…

What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world; duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

Observations on Last Night’s Election

November 5th, 2008 12:00 pm | 1 Comment

In the crowds, President-Elect Obama’s audience was most diverse.
Senator McCain’s crowd was decidedly White across the crowd.

When President-Elect Obama mentioned Senator McCain, cheers and applause from the crowd.
When McCain supporters heard Barack Obama’s name, they jeered and boo’d.

In Orange County only 10 cities voted Democratic: Irvine, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Beach and Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Tustin, Anaheim, Buena Park, Stanton and Laguna Woods.

In Orange County only 4 cities voted NO on 8. My city of Mission Viejo was NOT one of them. However, my hometown of Irvine did support equality for all. Joining Irvine was Aliso Viejo, Laguna Beach and Costa Mesa.

As of this morning with 96% of precincts reporting on Prop 8:

52.2% Yes
47.8% No

Tonite, I am proud to be an American

November 4th, 2008 8:17 pm | 4 Comments

It has been an amazing day here in America. Voters all across this country has come together to vote the next President of the United States. What the voters have done is make the largest change not only in America, but in the world.

With the polls just closing on the West Coast, many news organization are calling Barack Obama our President-Elect. After a long campaign, America is in a different place.

Right now, my skin is tingling, I have a smile on my face, and a tear in my eye as I watch a historic election. We all voted today for change. I voted for change. I voted for the candidate that I believe, knows who I am. He was the candidate that I voted for because he has the American People in mind.

I’m sitting here shaking my head amazed that we all made our voices heard tonite.

I’ll have more to say later…. congratulations America!!!

Vote Tomorrow, Then Eat!

November 3rd, 2008 11:54 am | 1 Comment

Looks like some places are offering free food or discounts if you hit the polls tomorrow. Vendors such as Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Pizza Hut, Ben & Jerry’s and the Daily Grill will be making the offers, hoping to get voters to the polls, but more importantly, into their restaurants.

Starbucks: One Free Tall Coffee on Nov. 4, all you have to say is that you voted

Krispy Kreme: Free star-shaped doughnut to voters

Pizza Hut: Order a pizza online and get a 20% discount – for new users only

Ben & Jerry’s: One free scoop of ice cream from 5pm to 8pm, for anyone on Nov 4

Daily Grill: Free appetizer to voters.

It is interesting to note that in California, there is an obscure law on the books that prohibit “gifts” to the electorates. violation of the law is 16 months to 3 years in jail.
