Goodbye Star Trek: The Experience
Well today is the last day for Star Trek: The Experience, the decade old venue at the Las Vegas Hilton. After 10 years in operation, the owners of the event, Cedar Fair, Inc and the landlords, The Las Vegas Hilton, has decided not to renew their relationship.
I have never been to the Star Trek: The Experience. For some reason I never went. Don’t get me wrong, I have been a fan of the Star Trek universe for as long as I can remember. I just wasn’t one of those guys who owned a uniform or had my own pair of Vulcan ears. I wasn’t a closet Trek fan either. To this day, I still find my self planted in front of my TV watching old episodes of Voyager, Enterprise, TNG and DS9.
When it comes to conventions and exhibits, I always shyed away. My friends Aaron and Davey convinced me to go to Star Trek: The Tour at the Queen Mary in Long Beach when it opened. The Tour was a multi-city traveling museum. It boasted to have actual props, uniforms and such from the actual productions. In a previous post, I talk about my disgust about The Tour.
I can only imagine that the Star Trek: The Experience was something akin to The Tour.
I guess I will never know. BTW, SciFi channel is hosting a Viewer’s Choice marathon of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
