I Lost 1 Niece and 2 Nephews to Vista

December 31st, 2007 1:26 pm | No Comments

Well after years of trying to convince my sister and her husband to keep their kids on Macs, they did the unthinkable and bought 3 HP laptops for the three of them.

They have never had brand new Macs, they always hand-me-downs. G4/1.25 ; MacMini 1.25/iMac 700Mhz – but all running OS X.

My other nephew from my other sister still is on a MacBook, but seems to be running XP  part of the time – which is fine, I’m in XP for a good chunk of the day too, but only in the background.

It’s hard to compete with a brand new computer and kids who only know “new” and not what is right.  The littlest on, my niece, will feel the biggest impact.  They use Mac laptops in the classroom.  They have laptop carts and hand out laptops to kids that don’t have a Mac of their own.  She will have to carry a USB stick to class and bring her work home and they only use OS X in the classroom.

Bionic Nightmare

December 28th, 2007 10:11 pm | No Comments

So I have been sick the last couple of days. Somewhere in between cough medicine, Advil and periods of unconsciousness I had a dream that I was bionic. Yeah..I know…laugh at me.

But it wasn’t re-imagined Bionic, it was the old style bionic. In my dream I came to the side of a building. I looked up, saw a ledge. I squatted down, with my hands at my side, fists clenched, and jumped up towards the ledge.

I even heard the sound…you know that sound that the Steve and Jamie made when their bionics were in use.

I lept up and didn’t make it.

WHAT?!?!?

My fingers grabbed the edge of the ledge then I woke up.

WTF?? I have bionics and I couldn’t even make the ledge in my dream??? How sad was that?

Ugh.

Still Sick

December 28th, 2007 2:18 pm | No Comments

It’s a couple of days after Christmas and I’m still sick.  I stil have head congestion and wheezing.  In addition, I have started to have super headaches – focused on my temples, the base of my neck and shoulders.  Last nite I was freezing, and no I can’t get cold enough.

There was a big commotion over at my next door neighbors.  They were very loud, lots of yelling, door slamming and fighting.  I wasn’t sure if I should call the police or not, but to tell you the truth, I was so sick and in bed, I don’t think I had the energy to dial the police.  At one point, the door slammed so hard it sounded like an explosion.  The fighting continued for about 40 minutes at which point someone got in their car and drove away. I assume it was the girlfriend.

Anyway…today sucks. I’m still sick and now these headaches. Help.

Ugh. Sick on Christmas

December 25th, 2007 11:25 pm | No Comments

Well the sore throat started on Sunday. I didn’t think much of it. Just a tinge of scratchiness.  I was also feeling very tired. I rested most of the weekend.  Yesterday, Christmas Eve, I got out of the house to enjoy some of the nice weather.  Blue skies, upper 60s/lower 70s. I was out at Ralphs purchasing stuff for Christmas lunch at my parents house. I had already picked up a Honeybaked Ham and we also needed turkey for my dad. I didn’t want to purchase a whole Turkey, so I went with Whole Turkey Breasts.  Of course, they were brined the evening before in my usual brining solution and it was so moist!!! This time I cooked the breasts downward, then turned them over in the last 30 minutes of cooking to get some browning.

It was good to see my dad and mom and all the kids.  It was a very informal lunch with all the traditional fixings.  I didn’t eat much. I wasn’t feel well still.  The scratchiness has turned into a ball and I was really really sleepy. I left right after lunch (3ish), came home and have been in bed ever since. I woke up to being fully congested and hot.  I can’t find my thermometer, so not sure if I’m running a temp.

I missed Scott Shumaker’s call as well as Tim from work.  I got up around 10:30 this evening and txt’d Tim. He is on his was to a small vacation down in Mexico with Damien. As for me, I had some leftovers and trying to stay warm as I’m now freezing.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

Back to bed for me.

While You’re Young…Have Fun

December 23rd, 2007 9:45 pm | No Comments

A former employer of mine has started a marketing campaign for the company, which is an unusual move, but considering this year’s events of lead and other toxic materials making their way into their toys, Mattel felt it necessary to start this campaign. When I first saw it, it grabbed me in. Images of parents and their children playing with some of the toys I grew up with and the joys a toy can bring to a child.

Mattel has always been a company of integrity to me. I was with them for 2.5 years and it was a proud time for me. Congratulations on to Mattel for re-affirming what many of us know. I’m still with you Mattel and so are my nephews and nieces.

Here is the 1 minute version of the commercial.
