American Idol 6: Top 12 Gals

February 28th, 2007 9:54 pm | No Comments

Gina Glocksen
Nice start to the evening. Another repeat, Carrie sang this song. Good strong voice, I like it tonite. Be careful, the backup singers were overpowering a bit. Good ending.
Score: 8

Alaina Alexander
Hmmm….I’m not sure how I feel. You sound nervous and your not projecting. Watch the pitch. You’re look on stage looks kinda dorky. The blue dress is very Paradise Island like. Umm….the ending was kinda iffy.
Score: 7

LaKisha Jones
Train to Georgia…another repeat from last season. I think Paris sung this. Paris has that throaty voice, which is a good match, but you’re voice is better. No pitch issues at all. I think its a bit subdued from last week’s performance, but very well done. Different ending. Nice.
Score: 8.5

Melinda Doolittle
You’re quite photogenic. You got my vote tonite girl. Nice interpretation of My Funny Valentine. This style is very much you. I hope if you release a CD, that you do this kind of music. This is your comfort area.
Score: 9

Antonella Barba
First off , your brother is cute. That dress is so 70′s. That dress is something Florence Henderson would wear, but you look good in it. Stay away from Celine songs everyone. Uhhh, pitch issues. Why do you torture yourselves. You know what the judges will say, they will say if you’re going to sing a Celine song, you better do it better. This is not better. You’re not projecting and this is kind of a weak performance. Careful on the high notes. Sounds like you forgot the words, but you came back, maybe that was on purpose. It was just eh…to OK.
Score: 7-

Jordin Sparks
Ptich Jordin…careful. I don’t know this song. It kinda sounds familiar, but when I think I know it, you sings something and its not what I thought. Back to the pitch again. Careful not to anticipate the words.
Score: 7

Stephanie Edwards
Seeing yo on the stage, I keep waiting for a Toni Braxton song to come on. But it isn’t. I think its always awkward when the “cue” for the audience to stand and clap to the beat happens. Everyone looks so off-guard when they stand up. Its very distracting to me. Back to Stephanie, good vocal, a few notes off pitch here and there, but overall a good performance.
Score: 8-

Leslie Hunt
Something about acapella openings these last two days. You sound kind of lost in this opening sequence. You couldn’t wait to get to the swing part. Vocals are ok, but nothing too special. You’re trying to pull off that sultry sound, but your outfit doesn’t say it. sorry, for me it was eh…
Score: 7

Haley Scarnato
Cute boyfriend. Wow, I think this song does match you – although you’re not the Queen of this song. Its ok with a few pitchy notes here and there. Its hard to put Melinda’s performance aside to judge right now.
Score: 7

Sabrina Sloan
Last one of the nite. I luv this song – but not sure if I like your version of it. Again, this is sung by one of the greatest, its a hard act to beat Whitney’s performance. I expected more. Ohh..watch your pitch on the high notes. I wish it was a better end to the nite. Bad ending.
Score: 7-

American Idol 6: Top 10 Guys

February 27th, 2007 10:14 pm | No Comments

Phil Stacey (The Navy guy)
Ehh……a bit pitchy at the beginning. As for the look, dude, you have to wear collared shirts – it will help not make your head a focal point. Grow a goatee too. The rest of the song actually sounds ok. Better than last week. Watch that long note Phil….
Score: 7.5-8

Jared Cotter
I think this is a Marvin Gaye song. Good sound so far. Get rid of the sneakers bro. You could have pulled off the whole look if you didn’t have sneakers on. Much better than last week for sure. Seemed a bit forced on the lyrics. Ok…weird ending for me.
Score: 8+

AJ Tabaldo
Ok…gaydar is hitting hard tonite. I kinda felt it last week, but I have to say for sure this week. Ok..the acapella thing at the beginning was a bit spooky. I see this song being sultrily sung by a woman and not a dude. I mean, vocally it sounds ok and technically it was good, but I don’t think this song was right for you. (Simon said “he seems in his comfort zone” …the song was kinda gay…)
Score: 8

Senjaya Malakar
Ok….the song is upbeat, just like last weeks, but you sing it so mellowy. This is supposed to be a snappy song, but you sing the lyrics so laidback. I don’t get it. You’re not “steppin out” with this song. Sorry bro. The ending was sketchy too. :(
Score: 7

Chris Sligh
Oh my god. What are you doing with your hair??? DId you gel up your bangs?? Dude, the wedding photo is cute with short hair. Uh oh, Trouble…dude….they sang that last season…NO REPEATS! Compared to Taylor, he sang it better. Last week you sounded better. This week it didn’t wow me.
Score: 7.5

Nick Pedro (Also a Cutie!)
Fever? Oh no. This song was only meant for girls to sing. I have not heard any guy sing it right. It’s a bit pitchy for me.
Score: 7

Blake Lewis (A Seattlelite and a cutie!)
Ok, the song started off a bit weird for me. I mean, it’s ok, but I really liked last week better. I guess I don’t like this kind of music. Watch the ending there bud.
Score: 8ish

Brandon Rogers
Dude, you look uncomfortable up there. I’m not sure this is the kind of song that will catch everyone’s attention. Time after Time we choose songs that aren’t the right fit, this wasn’t your song in my opinion. Vocally its ok and its an interesting interpretation of the song.
Score: 7

Chris Richardson (THE Cutie!)
Huh??? I can’t understand what you’re saying! There are a few pitch issues in the song, but so far, it sounds ok when you’re actually singing and not “talkin”. You owned the stage, but then the song just ended.
Score: 8

Sundance Head
Good person to end the night with. Strong song for you vocally and nice beat. Not too many pitch issues and oddly, you sound good singing this. Closing my eyes and just listening, I would your music. Nice.
Score: 8.5

So no “9′s” issued by me tonite, but I’m sure the women will impress and cast a shadow on the guys…

B’Elanna Torres Saves The Cheerleader

February 23rd, 2007 9:35 pm | No Comments

I was watching this week’s episode of Heroes when I saw on the screen: Directed by Roxann Dawson. Curious. You know I’m a die-hard fan of Star Trek. Roxann Dawson is also Lt. B’Elanna Torress on Star Trek Voyager. I’ve been watching Voyager on Spike and I have always loved Torres.

So it turns out that Roxann has directed the last two episodes of Heroes – Run and Unexpected.

What a wonderful surprise!

p.s. A former co-worker of mine, Elise Jimenez, reminded me of her and she was a fan of B’Elanna as well.

Health Check – 02/21/07

February 21st, 2007 11:59 pm | No Comments

I went to the Doctor today for my second follow-up since the heart attack. I am doing great. She said I looked good. She said she knew immediately just by looking at me that I had lost around 5 pounds. She asked what I have been doing the last two weeks and I told her what I have been doing. I stopped all fast food, no soda, watching my fat intake, drinking alot of water, eating more fish and chicken and keeping a good attitude. She said I was on my way to a better place.

We went over my last set of labs and she said everything looked in check. My blood pressure was much better at 130/90. My bad cholesterol (LDL) was a little high and my good cholesterol (HDL) was too low. She said get the HDL up as that fights the bad cholesterol. Leigh Anne at work told me to try something called Red Rice Yeast, she said she knew someone who dropped a ton of points on her cholesterol. She said my heart sounded good and my chest was clear. The hematoma (bruise) around my groin is all but gone now. There is a small ‘crescent’ shaped bruise that is there probably due to gravity.

My next physical checkup will be in late April at this point. I will be starting Cardio Rehab next week. She said she still didn’t want me exercising until at least 3/15. Any exercising needs to be done with a rehab therapist present.

I feel great. If I keep this up I hope to lose 10-12 lbs by my birthday in about 8 weeks. Yea!!

Apple and Cisco Figured It Out

February 21st, 2007 11:49 pm | No Comments

So it looks like the suit between Cisco and Apple over the usage of “iPhone” have been settled outside of the courtroom. Both companies have agreed to use the “iPhone” name for their products throughout the world. Meanwhile, both Apple and Cisco have agreed to collaborate on interoperability in the area of security and consumer and enterprise communications.

Glad they were able to work it out.
