Ugly Betty: The Christmas Party

December 30th, 2006 11:40 pm | No Comments

I’m watching the Ugly Betty Marathon on ABC tonite. The 10:00pm episode dealt with “how did you know he was the one” and all the things that go with it like the glance from across the room etc.

There has only been one person that I can say took me at the first glance.

Sigh.

Another Saturday in Bed

December 30th, 2006 9:18 pm | No Comments

So, I spent most of the day in bed today. I’m not sure why. I spent a good chunk of Friday in bed too. I feel sick, but not coughing or sniffly. I’ve had a low-grade headache for two days. I took Ibuprofen, it would go away, then come back. I got up about 8 o’clock this evening and was starving. I havent really eaten in two days. I did the worse thing I could do and ordered a pizza. Ugh.

So its about 9:15 and I think I know why I have been all down the last two days. I’m lonely. Another year has gone by. I was single when I went into 2006 and it looks like I’m going into 2007 single.

Why is this bothering me so much?

A Merry Little Christmas …

December 26th, 2006 12:39 pm | 1 Comment

Off to Vegas again to spend Christmas with the family. We left Saturday morning and got into town around 1oam. Not too bad, considering we left at 6:30. I thought there would be traffic, but it was smooth. We stopped off at my sister Lyn’s place. The kids just got up. For christmas I got Lyn’s kids computers. I gave my nephew Damian my old Mac Mini and had to buy him an LCD widescreen to go with it, so that was one gift. The second one got an old G4 and I have him my old 19″ LCD and my niece Sade got an iMac. In addition, I wired up the house for internet. Their hose has buildt in wiring so it was a breeze. I moved the wireless and cable modem to the network niche and hooked it all up. For my other sister Beth and her kids, I got Dallas a MacBook bag and a snap on red cover for his MacBook. Its kinda kewl and is red see thru plastic, intended to keep the MacBook scratch free. For ToniLyn, I got her a giftcard at Target. She wanted a Build a Bear, but I knew that her Nana (Dee, my brother-in-law’s mom) would proabbaly take care of that.

I rented a timeshare in Vegas to avoid the pet nightmare at both of my sisters. It was a small studio timeshare at a resort called Tahiti Express (the youger brother to the much larger Tahiti Village Resort). They put me next to the stairwell and all I could hear all night long is the thunder of footsteps. Ugh.

On Christmas Eve, we chilled out for breakfast then did some last minute shopping. My mom, sister and I went to Office Depot. My mom bought Jason and Sade new desks for their computers.

Donna, Alan and Iman (relatives on John’s side) were over. I haven’t seen Donna in like 10 years it seems! We had a simple dinner of chicken, pork tenderloin and turkey breast. Nothing fancy, but filling. We decided to open presents early this Eve so that Donna dn Alan could get underway on their drive back to Cali. We opened gifts at 10pm. The kids got all kinds of stuff. Lots of clothes, new Razrs for the boys and Sade got Guitar Hero II for their Playstation II. I’ve never heard of this game, but I gave it a try several times and got hooked. Now, if I only owned a console. My sisters both got me cash to help with the down payment on the apartment. Every dollar counts these days!

Overall it was a good Christmas. I snuck away back to the “Tahiti” and thought about all my friends. This Christmas was heavy into using tech to reach out. I got several SMS text messages on my phone wishing me a Merry Christmas! I sent out a few emails and MySpace comments.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

Now…I hope I have someone to spend New Year’s Eve with…

Nutmeg, Nutmeg and more Nutmeg

December 21st, 2006 4:13 pm | No Comments

So with the holidays upon us it was time to introduce my office to my made-from-scratch eggnog and holiday spiced cider. I make my eggnog the traditional way with eggs, cream, milk, sugar, nutmeg and vanilla. It has raw eggs, so those who are pregnant or with compromised immune systems, you need a recipe that calls for cooking the cream and eggs before consumption. In addition to the wonderful eggnog, is the holiday spiced cider. Unfiltered apple cider, cinammon, nutmeg, cloves, oranges and lots of rum. Served warm its the perfect warmer for the holidays (other than a cuddle-buddy).

Well as you know, both of these drinks have nutmeg in them. Someone was saying how nutmeg can be a mild hallucinogen. I went on the internet and lo’ and behold direct consumption of about 5-8 grams of ground nutmeg could send a person feeling nice!

I have never tried this…but I never heard of nutmeg doing this.

Have you???

Just say so. You won’t enjoy yourself if you don’t tell the truth.

Scott, the Plumber

December 17th, 2006 9:19 pm | No Comments

So…the water stopped running in the house. Pressure was really weak. Looked all over the house for a leak, none. Went outside and what do you know, there was a leak coming off the main to the house. A very very old t-connector had rusted away and given way for a major leak. I had to pry it off but part of the fitting had rusted off and stuck in the thread. Oh bother. I had to scrape out the rusted part without destoying the existing thread.

Off to Lowes I went for a new t-connector and 2 new hose faucets. Got there, none in stock. Oh bother.

Went to Home Depot and found me the parts I needed. Got home, threaded the t connector with pipe thread and tighted it with a wrench. Then on went the two hose faucets. Turned on the main and voila! We had water.

I’m such the handyperson!!

Yea!
