So the Showcase Showdown music is still stuck in my head.
Ugh.
Filed under: Personal Log, Rant, TVI was at Micro Center last night looking for a portable hard drive with Firewire support. I was stading in the Apple Section of the store when I came upon a salesperson and a couple buying a computer for their son. From the sound of it, they were buying it as a graduation present from high school. Now, I grew up in Irvine which is a high-middle to upper class city. They couple that was there was “of money” and the husband was on his cell phone the entire time, just nodding yes when the wife asked a question.
This salesperson clearly was not a “Mac” guy. I’ve been in this store many a times and this guy was new. I think they bought him a MacBook Pro with a 19″ Viewsonic LCD monitor. In addition they bought a laptop bag. Now they had walked over to the software section and they guy ws trying to sell them software like Microsoft Office. Now one thing he did right was to offer them the Teacher/Student edition of Office that it was a better value and priced for the education market. Where things started to go awry was him saying that buy purchasing the lower version, you might not be able to get the next upgrade for free. When did Microsoft ever give a major update away for free?? They couple actually mulled over the fact of buying the full version versus the education version. The salesrep said it would be over a year til the next major upgrade, so the wife shrugged her shoulders and said its still far away..let’s just go with the education version.
I shook my head in awe.
Next came the final swing. Extended warranty. AppleCare vs. Micro Center-branded warranty. So the guy goes on about how the Micro Center warranty is much better. AppleCare won’t cover liquid spills according the the rep. He also goes on to say that AppleCare covers the monitor. NOT! AppleCare will cover the monitor if it is an Apple monitor, not Viewsonic. He then also went on to say that Apple wouldn’t cover spills if it was beer. I was like “WHAT?!?!” First off he said that Apple wouldn’t cover any spill. Then he goes on to say that they won’t cover Beer spills, but will cover water spills. He goes on to say that if you purchase their warranty, any accidental damage will be covered and that a rep will be dispatched to their home. What he didn’t tell them is that if they buy the Micro Center warranty, that student won’t be able to bring his MacBOok Pro into his local Apple store ON CAMPUS to get it looked at. Thankfully, the mom went with Applecare. The husband chimed in off his call and said “Oh, honey, that’s the one I have on my machine…”
Ugh…
So..shame on me for not speaking up and informing the customer….
Filed under: Mac Stuff, Personal Log, RantAll day now I have had the music to the Showcase Showdown in my head from The Price is Right. All day it has been in my head and I have found myself humming it in meetings. At one point I was whistling it at my desk. I tried to listen to the radio to see if I could get it out of my head, but to this minute, I still hear it in my head.
Do you remember that ST:TNG episode where Deanna Troi kept hearing the music in head and she couldn’t deal with it, so Beverly had to sedate her?
Come on down! You’re the next contestant on The Price is Right!
Filed under: Personal Log, TV, TrekI’m feeling that itch. My one year anniversary as a podcaster is coming up in a few weeks and I have nothing to show for it htese last 5 months or so. I have so many ideas in my head, but haven’t been able to make it happen!
Help!!!!!
Filed under: Personal LogOk…I’m starting to listen to new podcasts again. As many of you know, I have very deep ties with the Little Fatty podcast produced out of Charleston, SC and my friend Larry. He and Big Fatty have been a fan of The Daily Purge with J. Michael Haas and Rob “Nelson” Lindley.
So last night I downloaded a few of JMH’s shows that had interesting titles like “Plain Burger”, “Shy Guy” and “Out To Lunch” I just had to give a listen.
JMH and Rob put on a very entertainiand engaging show. Their “Plain Burger” episode was most entertaining being a foodie myself. He talks about how he grew up as a child and the perils of eating with condiments!
I have many shows to catch up on. Go visit www.thedailypurge.net or see them on iTunes!!
Filed under: Just Too Gay!, RaveI’m sitting here at Starbucks, on my new MacBook, after a long day at work and I just realized I have an hour to get to the polls! If you are in California you have to vote in the Primary.
Up at stake is the Governor position as well as key positions such as Lt. Governor and State Controller. There is also a proposal 82 in regards to the creation of pre-school management by the state and the board of education.
Gotta go!
