Lunch at South Coast Plaza
Well, I met up with Aaron and his roommate Davey for lunch at South Coast Plaza on Sunday. We went to Claim Jumpers. Now, I have never been to Claim Jumpers, but was told the food was ok. They got to SCP a little ahead of me as I was dealing with my dad and his loss of satellite signal. Aaron and Davey had already gotten seated and I arrived only to get lost in the mall. It had been quite a number of years since I have been inside SCP and didn’t know exactly where Claim Jumpers was. Once I got there, Aaron was waiting for me out front. I got to the table and Davey was there. He had on this green shirt that really looked good on him. I know I always think the str8 boys are cute. We ordered and I had a cup of the Clam Chowder. Now..you ask..its frickin 87 degrees outside and why the hell am I having something like hot soup?? Well, the answer is that I LUV clam chowder and had to at least try it. I have to say that it was one of the best clam chowders I have had at a national food chain. The creaminess of the chowder was perfect to me. There was a good amount of clams in each spoonful and while there were alot of potatoes, at least they were small cuts and not huge chunks like in other chowders I have had. Next I had the Chicken Asian Salad. This is another one of those “regular” dishes I get at a new restaurant. The twist on their Asian salad is that they have fried angel hair pasta as opposed to the crispy noodles normally associated with an Asian salad. The dressing had a good balance of acid and it wasn’t drowning in dressing.
Davey had a club sandwich and a bowl of French onion soup, while Aaron had the Chicken BBQ salad. Both dishes looked good. Claim Jumpers is one of Davey’s favorite places to go. Apparently when he lived down in San Diego, CJs was one of his regular restaurants.
After CJs we went strolling in the mall. When you grew up did you have a mall that you called “My Mall”? SCP was “My Mall”. But was it? Almost all the stores inside have changed. I used to work in the mall back in the day when B. Dalton Booksellers has still around. We were on the 2nd floor and I told Davey and Aaron about a water fountain in the mall that I used to sit at all the time and I always thought that a “runner” from Logans Run would come out of it. The fountain reminded me of the water fountain at the end of Logan’s Run.
Next we walked over the Bridge of Gardens to SCP II (aka Crystal Court). We had to go to Pottery Barn so Davey could return something he purchased before. After that we went into the Apple Store and Aaron was to stay away from looking at the MacBooks. Aaron got a glimpse of mine on Saturday and he fell in love with hit!
After an hour or so I headed back home. I crashed when I got there and didn’t wake up until around midnight. It was fuckin hot. The humidity levels are higher than normal for SoCal and I was tossing and turning. God forbid we turn on the AC in the house (another reason why I need to move out).
I didn’t get a chance to talk to Aaron as I was dead asleep. I wanted to say thanks for hanging out.
