Clove Cigarettes and Me on My Knees Again

September 1st, 2005 11:51 pm | 2 Comments

Well, I worked again today as a contractor for moving 116 Windows 2000 Pro workstations. This was for Option One once again and we did one of those diagonal X moves. The folks from the 1st floor of building Y will move to the 2nd floor of building X. Then, the folks from the 1st floor of building X will move to the 2nd floor of building Y. Crazy! But doing these types of moves are no stranger to me. We did them all the time at Mattel. We had a crew of 5 tonite helping out. We were a bit more organized based on some ideas that I presented to the crew a couple of days ago. It was a long day. I reported for work at 11:30am and didn’t finish until 9:30. No lunch break, just (2) 15 minute breaks. We had to breakdown, move, then re-assemble 116 workstations all in one swoop. This meant getting down on my knees and crawling under desks to disconnect and connect powerstrips, ethernet and telecom wires. We had an unusual amount of workstations that had those KVM switches for 2 or more systems. Those easily took 10-15 minutes of setup. A regular station should take no more than 5 minutes to set up the computer, monitor, kb, mouse, LAN connection and telecom.

I met a new guy that was assigned to CNS full-time, his name was Larry. He helped out tonite after his regular shift at Option One. At the end of our night, we went outside to bring some equipment to the other building and he lit up a cigarette. After a few seconds….it was apparent it was a Clove cigarette. I almost asked for one! It brought back such memories of when I was in high school and snuck in a clove cigarette at parties. I’m not a smoker, I’m asthmatic, but I love the smell of cloves.

I got home around 10:15 and had to get my feet up. They hurt. I need new shows. I”ve been wearing my Doc Martens, but they are an old pair that is actually just a size smaller than I usually wear. So after a long day in them, you can imagine how my feet hurt.

I got an IM from Tom over at the RambleRedHead podcast. I took sometime to help him out tonite with his RSS and blog website. I’m going to make some art work for him this weekend. Check out his podcast at http://rambleredhead.blogspot.com.

Well everyone…off to bed I go. I have to report in at 7:30am tomorrow.

I can’t sleep

September 1st, 2005 3:25 am | 2 Comments

It is very early. I can’t sleep. I’ve been tossing and turning all night and it has been like this for the last three nights. I have so much on my mind and can’t figure out how to purge all this mental stress. I have to be at work at 11:30 this morning, but before that my mom needs me to drive her to a doctor’s appointment at 8am. It’s 3:15am now and have to be up in several hours.

Ugh.

I took some time earlier to thanks Madge, Ragan Fox, Sandro, Archer and others for sending emails of support. It was nice to know that all of you have taken the time to write and give me some words of encouragement. I was telling Ragan that I was listening to his show and how it was able to bring a smile to my face today. I also heard from Alex in Charleston and he wanted me to know that if I needed someone to talk to that he was around. Thanks Alex. Some of my listeners have written in to me personally to also offer their words of support and encouragement. Thank you all for letting me know you are there.

Well, I’m too scared to take a sleeping pill for fear of being late for work. I don’t want to watch TV anymore today, I’ve been watching Katrina coverage all day.

I miss Brian

September 1st, 2005 12:01 am | 2 Comments

I was thinking about KC tonite and I also started to think about Brian.

I miss him. Brian emailed me earlier this evening to say hello and tell me about a Phish contest to attend one of Trey’s concerts.

I looked over at his picture on my desk and wished I was in DC.
