Missing Sam…

August 27th, 2005 2:56 pm | 1 Comment

Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter that is. The first 5 weeks of this season of Stargate SG-1 has been a mess! SG-1 has been scattered about on various projects. Jack is back in DC, Carter was heading up R&D at Area 51, Teal’c has his duties onthe Jaffa Council back on Dakaar and Daniel was supposed to be in Atlantis – but thanks to Vala, is now stuck back on Earth. We haven’t seen much of Sam except thru video communications between Stargate Command and Area 51. Colonel Cameron Mitchell has been trying to get Sam, Teal’c and Daniel to return to SG-1.

So finally in 6th Episode of the season, Lt. Colonel Carter has returned to Stargate Command, but not yet back to SG-1. Apparently this is a temporary assignment for Sam as they try to deploy a Mark 9 Naquadria/Nuclear based bomb to destroy the Orii beachhead (military term to define a foothold location from which to start an invasion force).

A few observations on my part about Sam’s return:
1. The Air Force cannot possibly agree that her hair is regulation.
2. It has been growing out of control for 2 seasons now
3. You can tell she emerging from her pregnancy (in real life not on SG-1). Her uniforms aren’t as “form fitting” as they used to be. This is especially telling when you see a side profile of Sam when she is in her Dress Blues.

Regardless of my meanlingless observations..it is good to see her back in action, albeit temporary. Welcome back Sam.

I won’t see you in Rio

August 26th, 2005 10:42 pm | No Comments

The Rio MP3 lineup is going the way of the wind. D&M Holdings has been manufacturing the MP3 players under the Rio name. In a press release issued today they said “a determination that the mass-market portable digital audio player market was not a strong enough strategic fit with the company’s core and profitable premium consumer electronics brands to warrant additional investment in the category.”

The Rio was the first MP3 player to hit the mass market back in 1998. But thechnically, it wasn’t the First MP3 player introduced in the US back in 1998. A few months prior ot the release of the Diamond Multimedia Rio PMP300, was the Eiger Labs MPMan F10/F20

Back to Work (well, sort of)

August 25th, 2005 11:22 pm | No Comments

Well today I reported for work. I’m a contractor for an IT Consulting firm here in Orange County. I’ll be doing Moves/Adds/Changes (MAC) work on Windows 2000/XP workstations for a company called Option One Mortgage based here in Irvine. They are part of the H&R Block family. We had to move around 70-80 workstations. That means, disconnecting all cables, keyboards, mice packing it up and getting the computer ready for move. Movers will then come in behind us and move the CPUs to their new location.

Report time was 4:00pm. I was meeting Thomas the owner of the company and Vince his Operations Manager. I walked up and there were two other contractors there too. Keith and Jeff. All the employees of the affected areas were already sent home so we could just walk-in and get our work done. It was your basic cubicle workstation setup. Some of these stations obvisously look like they haven’t been moved since they moved in. Dustbunnies and dust behind some of the stations. We needed to breakdown workstations in 2 of the 4 buildings. We finished up around 7:30 and headed out to dinner. Thomas was paying. We ended up at Islands here in Irvine. I had the Cabo Loco dish, basically Carnitas with Flour Tortillas! You know I have such a weakness for Carnitas.

Now I’m home and my right leg is cramping. I didn’t stretch before starting work as we had to crawl under desks to disconnect cables and such. Tomorrow, we hook up the systems we broke down today.

Weather Channel Updates Logo

August 25th, 2005 6:03 pm | 2 Comments

Gone are the days of the rounded corners and that old 70′s/80s feeling. If you took the logo and made it orange it could have made for a classic disco era logo. But, the old Weather Channel logo wasn’t that old at all. The original logo hit television screens when the Weather Channel was launched in 1982.

Now they bring a clean, sleek look and a new tagline: Bringing Weather to Life

Traveling Thru the Stargate

August 25th, 2005 1:52 pm | 1 Comment

So….I have been watching my “catch up” episodes of this season of Stargate SG-1, and I have noticed, that traveling thru the Stargate in THIS galaxy has changed. If you look out your “window” now as you travel thru to the other side of the wormhole, the WALLS have changed!!!

After 7 or 8 seasons….looking out the “window” now looks different??? Did I miss something in an old episode? This is the same “look” they used when they went to the Pegasus Galaxy. I accepted that since that was a “technically” different set of gates, that the look of “travel” might look different. But now…miraculously, its how it looks here too!
